The following courses are suitable for anyone who interfaces with the public on a daily basis. Separate course designs are available for Social Workers, Social Care Staff, Human Resources, Employee Relations and Complaints Officers. Each course is individually designed to reflect the skills base, experience, roles and areas of responsibility of each group.
HANDLING AGRESSION
Aim
Focuses on handling aggression from other people, however, also includes looking at own aggression in order to understand the dynamics and to be aware of own reactions within an aggressive encounter.
Course Outline

- Self Awareness – looking at personal conflict styles & attitudes
- Provides Tools to handle aggression in a more productive manner.

Introduction to Handling Conflict
Aim
A useful introductory course designed to provide participants with tools to handle every day conflicts more constructively within the workplace, groups and organisations. This course is suitable for anyone who wants to handle interpersonal relationships better, either personally or professionally.
Course Outline
Ø Develop an understanding of conflict dynamics
Ø Examine personal behaviour and alternative conflict styles
Ø Enable participants to work positively with a diverse range of individuals and groups
Duration
This course is available as 12 hours non-accredited. Alternatively, to receive Open College Network accreditation at Level Two, participants will attend a three day course and complete a learning portfolio.
Mediation and Negotiation Skills
Aim
This course provides an opportunity for participants to acquire basic skills in mediation and to assist others in the resolution of conflict. Participants will gain knowledge and understanding of the mediation process and develop the confidence to perform as a mediator in a two-person dispute.

Whatdoes the training involve? This six day course will involve participants exploring their relationship to conflict. They will have the opportunity to reflect on and develop skills to enable them to respond to the different needs of the participants involved. The participants will be guided through a range of mediation processes that will assist those in the conflict gain greater understanding of others position. The course will also explore the need for negotiation, what is involved and how to reach an acceptable win/win situation.
*Accreditation is available through Open College Network. To achieve accreditation participants must attend all sessions and submit a learning portfolio.

6 days accredited OCN Level 2 (6 credits.)
Cost
The cost is £550 per day (one trainer) for up to 10 participants and £850 (two trainers) for a maximum of 16. This cost covers the fees for qualified trainers, handouts, manuals and tutorials depending on course design.
NB The cost does not include OCN registration, trainers travel or accommodation if necessary nor cost of venue or refreshments unless run as an open access course.
